Bees are VIPs (Very Important Pollinators)

Today our class read a text from connected series about pollination. We learnt all about how pollination works and started to become familiar with the different parts of a flower. We even dissected a flower and pinched some of our Principals beautiful flowers to observe. We noticed the yellow pollen and got to see the ovules inside of the flowers' ovary. We have begun sketching a diagram of a flower and are beginning to label the different parts of the flower we have been learning about.

Do you know how to play Ki O Rahi?

In room three we have been learning how to play a new game called ki o rahi with Matua Damon from Turanga Health. This game involves two teams where one team has to try and hit a drum with the ball and the other has run into the circle and score a try. It is quite a complicated game but we are learning fast how to play using the best tactics. Here are some photos from our practices.

Can you make a seed germinate?

Today our student teacher Miss Hyland taught our students all about how and why seeds germinate. We are going to be critical scientists and record what we notice happening to our seeds over time!

Delicious Pumpkin Soup

Today room three cut, mashed, stirred, poured, cooked, sprinkled and ate some delicious pumpkin soup! Everyone in our class had the chance to cut part of our pumpkin and some special helpers even got to cook the onions and garlic. Check out our slideshow and keep an eye out for the recipe next week.
